The Lucky You Giveaway

I have not yet hosted any sort of giveaway, but I have sure been entering them lately! In this process of blogging and reviewing books on this blog for the past few months, I've read lots of great books and met lots of awesome people. To thank you all for your kindness, support, and camaraderie, I'm going to offer my very first giveaway.

I've toyed with the idea of developing a couple of giveaways that I can use off and on throughout the year. I have one that I plan to introduce in the fall and one that I want to start right now. I'm calling it the Lucky YOU! Giveaway, and it will run from now until July 7th, or 7.7. Get it? Lucky you?

I've also decided that whenever I hold a Lucky YOU! Giveaway, I'll offer up a choice of one of three or four titles to the winner. This first giveaway will be a 3 Leaf Giveaway, so there will be three titles for the winner to choose from. Here are the titles:
To enter, simply leave a comment on this post. You MUST answer the following question:

I'm not doing any extra entries for this first giveaway because school is ending and I have tons and tons of finals to correct and it's just crazy! My summer school students will help me to choose the winning answer, so you have to impress them and me. They can be brutal, those summer school kiddos, so make sure your answer is a good one!

This contest is open to US residents only; sorry international bloggers! Maybe I'll include you after I make some extra money teaching summer school. Make sure to leave an email, otherwise I will not contact you. Good luck!

  1. Isn't it a coincedence that I've been living to read The Sky is Everywhere? lol :D

I don't believe in luck, I believe in Fate and that everything happens for a reason. I don't believe that somehow, just because you beg for something to change, that it will change. I know because after I was on the ground in the Arcade playing that game where the little ball zooms around in the circle-shaped tube and you press the button when the ball passes a spot. I was screaming (saying really loudly)"Please please work!! I need a 100 more tickets, please please please!"

And I wasted all my tokens and got a little whistle as a prize. Erg.

ANYWAY! I just believe in Fate, not luck.

This is a great opinion-based giveaway, thanks so much!

  2. I would love to win The Sky is Everywhere too.

As Sagittarius born in the Year of the Rabbit, I am suppose to be lucky, but from personal experience this is not, I repeat not the case. I have been unlucky in love, never won the lottery, and did terrible picking horses at the track. Bingo is just a way to waste time, and after hours of searching for a four leaf clover, all I got was poison ivy.

However, I do think there are lucky people in the world. After all winning the lottery is certainly a firm testament to luck. Beautiful people are lucky to have gotten great genes from their parents, who luckily met and fell in love. I can also personally attest to the lucky Bingo players who make a killing playing the same cards I once played, and winning when I didn't.

So do I believe in luck? Well yeah as long as it is someone elses!

  3. Why, yes, I do believe in luck. Although not all the time is it good luck. As my neighbor says "if it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all.'

Sometimes I am very lucky! :)

    thanks for the giveaway!!

  4. I don't believe in luck. I think that you have to work for everything you get.

  5. I believe in luck AND fate. After all, it might not be fate that I win this contest, but I might get lucky! :P

  6. I believe in luck, but I do not believe in luck magically happening. For me, "luck" is an unusually good coincidence under the right circumstances. As a first century philosopher once said, "Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity." It is not magic or the works of the stars; luck just happens! Luck is a random thing that happens a lot to the lucky individuals :).

  7. That's a hard one. I do think some things that have happened to me are purely luck. BUT I think most things are fate. I have always believed that everything happens for a reason. I try to think that the major things that happen are due to fate and the small things are just luck.

    Great giveaway!

  8. Funny that this is your questions! I just purchased a shirt that fits this topic. I believe that you make your own luck. (the tshirt sports a picture of a clover with an extra leaf taped onto it). You are given many opportunities in life to do things. You can chose to do them of not. You decide if you are going to be 'lucky' by your choices. I, personally, love to take chances and have been very 'lucky' in my ventures.

  10. Thanks for offering this giveaway - it's fantastic!

I don't believe in luck. I DO believe in Providence. It's God directing things that we'd call 'happy coincidence.' But I do love the inclusion of luck in stories - as in the Harry Potter books. It's fun and an interesting concept.

  11. i don't believe in luck. I have always believed that you make your own luck - working hard, putting yourself in opportunistic situations and being smart/safe in order to avoid "bad luck".

I have been dying to read all three of these books - what a great giveaway!

  12. I do believe in Luck. Some people really are just lucky in life. I dont believe I always am, but I have had some moments. There are also some people that have just nothing go right for them. I also think luck ties into fate. If its meant to happen it will, no matter where you are or what you are doing.

I have heard some great things about these books. Really been looking forward to the chance to read Before I Fall.

  13. No. IT IS DESTINY that guides our path in life.

    bt dubs im a follower

  14. Hmmm, I sorta believe in luck. Because reality isn't fairytales and not everything is going to end the way you want it. If it's something insane and it turns out the way you want it too, I think thats luck.

Thanks for this awesome contest !

  15. As much as I tell myself luck doesn't exist, I still sorta believe in it. How else do cops seem to pop up out of nowhere when my dashboard suddenly isn't working and I can't tell how fast I'm going?! Some people are naturally lucky and win things all the time. I'm naturally UNLUCKY I've kind of just given up. Lol. Though I did win a scratch ticket the first time I ever did one... BEGINNERS LUCK! See?! Luck exists! That or it's just the Universe laughing at us all. :P

Thanks for the contest! I want Will Grayson, Will Grayson SO MUCH. John Green= utter epicness XD

  16. Sheesh! What a tricky question...I guess I've never really thought too hard about it! Now that I am, I think I have to say I don't believe in luck. I take time to stop and be thankful for everything in my life everyday. I think about all the great things I have going on in my life - family, friends, house, car, etc. - and then think about everything I want to accomplish. I am an optimistic person overall. I try to stay organized and do what I have to do and things keep going my way. If something goes wrong, I deal with it, but in general I feel like I make choices for myself and I will good things to happen just by having a positive perspective on life. (I did read The Secret a few years ago and that got me thinking about positive thinking...very interesting book!).

  17. yes, i think luck plays a part in life. or at least, it's fun to think that it does ;-D

  18. To be openly honest, I am a christian, and we believe that luck doesn't exist. God made everything happen for a reason! sometimes i do question it though. Like, even the tiny little things that are lucky but don't really matter in life. Sometimes I question why God would care about something so tiny!

  19. Whoa amazing contest! Thank you (:

Hmm that's a toughie. I think I believe in fate. But then there are those times when it's so crazy you might just call it luck. Like winning four contests in one week! I do believe that everything happens for a reason though.

    Sorry for the confusing answer haha (;

  20. Hmm...I do believe in luck, in a way. There are certain times when "lucky" things will randomly happen to a person, it's true. But what I REALLY believe in is "frame of mind". When you think optimisticly, when you decide that you are having a good day, good things happen. Often, more than you expect. You're sending out signals (sort of) that you are open to good things and trust that they'll come. On the other hand, if something really crummy happens to you early in the day, you'll get into thinking that it's only downhill from there; hence, a bad day where yucky thing after yucky thing happens.

Lucky things rarely happen in the middle of one of those "bad" days, because we're thinking in a bad direction. Lucky things tend to happen when we're in at least an "okay" mood.

So that's my take on it. Hope it made sense!

  21. I believe in fate - which my father told me is what you make it. I work hard to get what I want out of life. But I do also belive in Karma - which could be like luck, maybe this is because I am not considered to be lucky by other people. I am however blessed in many ways, although awaiting cosmic justice to arrive in some form soon.
Thanks for the contest - I would love to win Grayson Grayson.

  22. I don't believe in luck...not sure why I don't. But I do say "good luck" and "you're lucky" alot...

    jacindahinten @ sbcglobal . net

And I just read the sky is everywhere a couple of days ago...

  23. I believe that "lucky" things happen but I don't believe that luck is really something someone can have. I guess I believe luck is just a coincidence and not really luck at all
    throuthehaze at gmail dot com

  24. I believe in luck sometimes when things happen consecutively and there good. Otherwise, its harder to believe in luck than fate.

    cindyc725 at gmail dot com

  25. I sort of believe in luck. This sounds silly but I have a lucky bowling song, 'Fly' by Hilary Duff. Whenever it is playing and I am bowling, BAM, I get a strike. I think it just means that you were in a good place at a good time...I don't really believe that some have better luck than others though. I have wanted to read The Sky is Everywhere for a while! I've heard such wonderful things about it! :)

  27. I don't believe in luck. I think everything happens for a reason and that a person's actions/beliefs/attitude can bring about certain events.

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  28. Yes and no...I believe we make our own luck. For example, if you go to college and get a degree and make decent grades, then yes, you're bound to be lucky in the job hunt. Basically you made your luck. On the other hand, sometimes you're just born with it. For example, if you're born beautiful then chances are you're going to date/marry beautiful people. That's a kind of luck you just got automatically, although I must confess dating a pretty person isn't always lucky...
    Anyways. Thanks for the giveaway!

  29. I do! How else do you win the lottery? It's all luck.

  30. Thanks for hosting a give-away contest! I think it is great that you are having your summer schoolers help you choose the winner. So - here goes -

Yes - I belive in luck, to a point. I believe that you make your own luck. I think that you can be in the right place at the right time - which is lucky. I also believe that the choices that you make determine the opportunities that are made available to you. Each choice determines which choices you will have later. I like to think of it as ripples in the water: everything you do effects everything you may get to do. Anyway - yes, I believe in luck - but I also believe in hard work and going after what you want in life.

  31. I kind of believe in luck, I suppose. I believe more, though, that everything happens for a reason.

  32. Hm. I guess I don't really believe in luck. I think you make your own, as Raspberry said above. And sometimes things happen rather serendipitously, but I don't think it's something you can really call luck.

    angiegirl (at) gmail (dot) com

  33. Hmm...without a better way to express why things happen, I have to say I do believe in luck. However, there are cases when luck will never be the issue, and as Angiegirl said, you make your own luck. I do, however, solely believe that everything happens for a reason.

  34. I do believe in luck - because I think I have the worst luck anyone could have.
